THE PROBLEM OF THE GAY SIGNATURE:
Unearthing the Queer Archetype in Astrological History and Culture
Let’s take a closer look at the history of the “gay signature” in Astrology. Where did it originate? How was it constructed? What was the point of even trying to identify it in the first place? Was it always meant to be condemnatory or was Astrology the first divinatory practice to state that people were simply “born this way.” The idea of a divine androgyne takes on a different meaning when it steps out of the realm of the symbolic and into the everyday. We may discover that the astrological characters have held the space for a queer identity all along and – like with everything in Astrology – were simply awaiting the time when they could be reassembled in a way that speaks to our 21st century society.
